This is our pitch for our dog's documentary:


A documentary about Ability Dogs and their incredible talents. We follow people with debilitating conditions as they tell their heartwarming stories about their special dogs

This here is a simple video done by Andy, Mark, Sam Babington and myself during a sound workshop with Fergus. The idea was to make a very simple video with a quality sound.

For it we used both a radio mic and a boom mic. The radio mic was attached to me so it could get my voice as clear as possible and since Andy was close to me, it could get his voice as well just bit lower. The boom was used to get a different source of audio so we could get double the audio which in our case meant double the quality.

After Fashanu's dead, BBC3 aired a documentary called 'Britain's Gay Footballers' based on his life and how he dealt with attacks of everyone because of him being gay. Here is a 2 min clip of the beginning of the video:

As part of our research we studied a nigerian footballer called Justin Fashanu. His story is very shocking and important in the football world, specially when talking about gay people in it.

Born in 1961, Fashanu was the son of a Nigerian barrister living in England. When his parents split up, he and his brother John were eventually placed in a foster home in Shropham, Norfolk. He began his professional career at Norwich City in 1978 and made his debut the following year. Two years later, he won Goal of the Season for an effort against Liverpool. Nottingham Forest paid £1 million for him in 1981, making Fashanu the first black footballer to command such a transfer fee. But his career stalled under Brian Clough, Forest’s combative manager. Clough was disturbed, it seems by rumours that Fashanu was visiting gay clubs and bars. His goals dried up, especially after Clough discovered his homosexuality and banned him from even training with the rest of the team.

On the morning of 3 May 1998, he was found hanged in a deserted lock-up garage he had broken into, in Shoreditch, London, after visiting Chariots Roman Spa, a local gay sauna. In his suicide note, he stated: "I realised that I had already been presumed

guilty. I do not want to give any more embarrassment to my friends and family."

For our football idea, we decided to do a documentary on the only footballer that is openly gay at the moment. She is english and happens to be the captain of the national team as well. Her name is Casey Stoney and is a formal player at Arsenal F.C. 

The original plan was to get her to talk about her life and what it has meant for her to "come out of the closet" in such a competitive and judgmental world. Interviews with her friends and family, the coach and people involved in the entire process of seeing how she has evolved as a woman and how she has taken the whole situation. 

Helen managed to contact her manager and had a talk so that we could make this happen, but it seems like they would only do it if we pay her, which didn't work for us and made us jump into Danny's idea. 

For our documentary we all came with different ideas on what to make our film about. At first we had to choose between the options of doing a documentary called My Hero, aimed to be aired at BBC3, where the objective is to make a film about someone's hero. The second option was to create one about Canterbury Cathedral and the repairs they are doing for it at the moment. As a group we discussed it and decided to do the hero one. It gives us more options of a story and we can create something with more impact with it regarding our personal skills.

For our group ideas (starring Helen, Danny and myself) we had all great and very different ideas. Helen's idea was to make a documentary about the only open lesbian female football player, who for some is considered a hero, taking into account that no other football player is officially declared as gay since that is taken really hard in the football world. Danny's idea was to make a documentary about dogs that help disable people to live a better life. Finally my idea was to make a documentary about what it means to be a hero, different types of hero and understanding that by doing really simple and small stuff you can also be a big hero for some people.
