Digital News - News Anchor

For our news production we decided to have an anchor and a live reporter for the live piece. As for the anchor we have decided that she will also be the voice over the first news (package) as they do that in a couple news channels. Helen came with an idea of someone she had in mind, a girl called Francesca who works with her at Cineworld, but she has a youtube channel and does Vlogs all the time which actually is great as she is very confident in front of the camera. Here is a video of an example of a video she has done for her youtube channel.

As for our live production we are thinking about using someone that Danny knows but we are still to analyze if it will suit us or not and also whether he can do it. As for our second option we are thinking to either put an urgent quick announcement over Star Now looking for a reporter or just finding someone that is very keen with being in front of a camera and is willing to do it.

We had a debate of whether to use Francesca for the live or as the anchor and we came with the decision of using her for the anchor as she is quite available any time, easy access and she will be part of the green screen for the virtual studio and the voice over for the package so there is more chance we need her than if she does the live production, as we will only need that person that day so we believe is the best choice possible.

Digital News - Brands Research

I started doing some research regarding brands and colors and the meaning of them, specially on TV. In every area, colors have a specially meaning and express a different emotion. As an example we know the color RED for love, socialism, blood, stop, action, etc. As another example GREEN can represent peace, calm, nature, health, vegetables, money, life, etc. As part of the research I made, I found a couple pretty decent graphics that show and explain a bit the meaning of this colors. Here is a basic one on the meaning of colors in general:

In TV the meaning of colors changes a little bit but not that much. It starts to define more what the audience is going to look at, what the channel is a bit about and not even just with TV but with brands in general. The importance of colors is really big as it will define a lot of characteristics with just a first look and you want that first look to be the appropriate one. Here is another table that has examples of different brand logos and a bit of their meaning regarding their color:

At the moment we are still currently working in our colors as we have been changing our stories and would like them to suit it properly. At the beginning we had the idea of using blue and pink to represent sports for both boys and girls but both our stories are about female sports so we are still working on it and hopefully will have it by the end of this week.

Fiction Adaptation - Stop Motion

As my main technique for my video, I have decided to use Stop Motion. A lot of people even though have seen this technique before, they don't know exactly what it is and how it works, making a big question, what is Stop Motion?

Stop Motion is a type of animation that consists in making the illusion that real static objects are moving on their own. This technique is mainly used in animated videos and is becoming more popular every year. One of the main directors that has implemented this technique successfully throughout the years is Tim Burton. His so known action 3D stop motion movies have been part of the revolution of animation, starting with Nightmare Before Christmas. Here are some of the movies from he is very well known for that have used this technique:

The Nightmare Before Christmas

In this video you can see how they design the sets of the movie and how the shoot it in stop motion, then they just make it more animation style in computer, but all the sets and main actions are properly build in a set.

Corpse Bride

Here is a very interesting video of animation tests on the characters of the movie. Even though the don't show the making of the animation, it is very interesting to see how the characters move and take life in the real world before being put in computer.

Frankenweenie

In my opinion this video here is amazing because it shows you first an action in the set of stop motion and the characters moving (the making of a scene) and then it shows you how the final work came in in the movie.
